New shows, new shows and new shows. All coming out soon...

Oct 23, 2020

Closed in 1971, Philadelphia’s Eastern State Penitentiary is considered by many to be one of the most haunted places in the country. It’s been featured on multiple television shows and is visited by dozens of paranormal researchers each year. There are multiple stories of paranormal-like experiences corroborated by visitors, inmates, guards, and workers for decades.

On today’s show, we’re joined by former prison tour guide, and author Dr. Paul Kahan to take us through the history of the prison and its propensity for eerie occurrences.  He’s the author of a number of books, including Eastern State Penitentiary: A History and The Bank War: Andrew Jackson, Nicholas Biddle, and the Fight for American Finance. He earned his Ph.D. in history from Temple University and is currently working on a narrative history of Philadelphia due out in 2022. Find out more about Dr. Kahan and his work at www.paulkahan.com.

Science can generally disprove most supernatural to an extent. But there is one that is closer to all of us than one might think.

And, we're back. Join us next week for the first show of our return tour. In the meantime, here is what to expect.

May 28, 2020

So what exactly has our favorite Grognostics character been doing during this shelter-in-place? Is he taking this opportunity to explore the sights, void of any commoners getting in the way of his explorations? Is he discovering new lands? Species? Breakfast options in the Transylvania Alps? We're warming up to get back to it here at the Grognostics studios (Jason's shoe closet) so get ready for more consistent Thursday posts going forward.

History has given us a handful of monumental love stories. Mark Antony had Cleopatra. Paris had Troy. Sonny had Cher. And Peter? Well, Peter had a love story that has never been told. Until now...

On all previous shows, we've concluded... well absolutely nothing, but we've sure had a blast doing it. On today's show we go back and touch on every prior show in thirty-second intervals to see if just maybe, we can conclude something on some of them. Have a short attention span and don't want to listen to our entire library of shows to learn something? This CliffsNotes version is for you.

On today’s show, we sit down with author Kathryn Hulick to talk Nazca Lines and all types of fun, worldly mystique. Kathryn has published numerous nonfiction books for children covering all types of intriguing topics including robots, video games, artificial intelligence, technology, energy, and others She is a contributing editor at Muse magazine with a monthly technology column and regular feature articles. Her new book which we discuss on the show,  Strange But True – 10 of the World’s Greatest Mysteries Explained is a magical collection of thought-provoking topics with just the right balance of imagination and science. It will make you think about that little blue dot we live on and trigger your imagination soar the next time you look up and that vast starry sky. Overall, it’s probably best not to miss this conversation.  Trust me on this one.

Eh, we probably won't.

Sure Santa, the Easter Bunny, and Ghosts rule the holidays but what about the lesser glamorized Pilgrim who makes Thanksgiving what it is today? Wait, you don't know Bartholomew the Thanksgiving Pilgrim? You do now.

Throughout our nation's history, brave and courageous individuals have battled tyranny, fearsome opponents and the lack of hope to provide us with liberties and freedoms we have today. For example this Veteran's Day 2019 we can use creative freedom to create a podcast instead of fighting in the trenches of a foreign land. For that we are thankful. Take today to thank those who deserve it most. Happy Veteran's Day to our fearless soldiers and fighters.

Throughout humanity, dating back to even our most civilized ancient civilizations, humans have had a fascination, a fear, a panic about witches. And why is that exactly? Why do we continue to fear their powers or more importantly why do we even think they exist? Well, we're glad you asked because Grognostics jumps with both feet into the boiling cauldron to find answers with a new guest while one of the regular guests takes the day off, involuntarily. Halloween beers from Elysian and New Belgium.

Oct 30, 2019

As part of our Halloween week of spooky hilarity, we present the one, the only, the easily spooked, Sir Matthew. He reminds us that the scariest things are sometimes right under our noses as well as bringing to light what candy we all drool over each Halloween.

In what could be the most mysterious experiment ever on America’s eastern seaboard, the Montauk Project marries our deepest fears of human experimentation with almost every aspect of the unexplained and esoteric. Join us for this confusing, yet unbelievably disturbing and intriguing ride as we dive headfirst into a stew of Grognostic topics all baked into one menu of debauchery and mystique. Beer graciously provided by Southern Spirits Podcast. You can find them wherever you get your podcasts and wherever you get your southern America alcoholism gene from.

I know this is a crazy idea, but we've made the collective decision to do something consistent on this show. One thing at least. We will now be posting at least every other Thursday. And sometimes, if our mood swings, and the furry clown with the ball gag in his mouth will let us within an arm's reach of a computer from our cages - every Thursday. So get used to checking your feeds folks. Because the Thursday posting begins now. Well actually it began a few weeks ago but that was technically by accident. Really.

On this show? Just a quick announcement with a healthy dose of reminiscing and a scintilla of inspiration. Written and produced by  soon-to-be top writer on the show Mr. Jason Bramell.

Apr 25, 2019

Just when you get settled in and think, wow, this podcast might actually be worth listening to… They’ve finally set up some sort of rhythm; no more in-between shows, releases consistently on a Thursday, and you know what to expect, we again totally pull the rug out from under you. Yes this is something different. We can’t help it.

On today’s show, our favorite Latin archeologist, known felon, prison-escapee, singer-stalker, and all-around amazing human we think, Raul pops in out of nowhere to regale us on his Flat Earth Theories, how Sir Matthew could be in an imposter and how he’s been living in Steve’s shed for past week. Honestly, this is friggin’ hilarious. You just have to listen.

Mar 28, 2019

Jason and I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with a real-life Bigfoot or our podcast doppelganger; one of the two to talk about the man (well not really), the myth (eh probably not), the legend (ok fine), Bigfoot. On this teaser we introduce you to our fellow collaborators,  Unearthing Paranormalcy, who we had a blast recording with. They do similar topics to our show with a hint of drinking and comedic flare, so one might say our podcast community has commenced. You can find their shows on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and wherever you listen to your podcasts. Stay tuned...

Raul doesn't normally break out of prison, but when he does, he curls up on the limb of a tree and spies into Steve's window.

Jan 4, 2019

2018 is in the books and we have a lot to be thankful for. We had some amazing guests this year on the show - Ira Pastor, CEO of Bioquark joined us to discuss the possibility of humans living forever. A new correspondent in the field Ada Pinkerton joined our cast of characters. We visited three amazing breweries; 101 North, St. Florian's and Steetcar 82 (coming soon). The Mojo sisters were back again, their whole family in full effect. Amanda Karr regaled us with ghost stories. Spiritual Medium, Evanne Jordan mystified us with her knowledge of Steve's inner workings. And then there was of course, the always entertaining, rarely serious Sir Matthew who finally discovered his porcelain-skinned crush was right in front of his nose the whole time. And what's up with that archeologist Raul? The one in prison? Will he be back? And lest we not forget the oft-obscure, always bizarre Trapper who leaves random voicemails which I'll be honest are quite bizarre and not just a little. Additional thanks to some of the regulars - the Producer, Amie, Jason Reedy, Kelly Stravers, Jevon, Nick, Gaby and of course Oisin, our Irish beer expert. Special thank you to first-timer Marc Ellis for his awe-inspiring knowledge on our Cosmic Queries shows. So what's next for 2019? Or more aptly, the next few months? Give this a quick listen and find out why dontcha?

Sep 21, 2018

We'll be back with regular episodes very soon folks. In the meantime, give a listen to what's baking in the Grognostics fall lineup oven.  A familiar friend calls in even.

Don't forget to check us out on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. We're also now on UnTapped. All are @grognostics. Also check us out on Patreon at www.patreon.com/grognostics.

Cheers!

There are regular skits. Then there are bonus skits. Take a listen to the skit we did just for fun on our last show, Foreign Accent Syndrome. Sometimes though, the uglier sister who didn't make the cut is way more fun, and not so ugly after all. Give a listen.

The theater had Shakespeare. The ocean depths had Jacques Cousteu. Math had Einstein. The world of discovery however, belongs to the 2017 Archipelago Archeologist of the year award winner, if this award actually existed, Dr. Adeline Eleanor Pinkerton. A throwback to the Edwardian Era, Dr. Pinkerton expects superior breeding, winning at all cost, and, well does not care for us much. On today’s show we sit down with the brazen archeologist as she guides us through some, well many, ok most, here’s the thing - all of our missteps on the show up to this point.  But, you’ll be surprised how it ends. In addition we review all of the past and current “friends of the show” to re-calibrate listeners on who exactly is who on this epic, explorative narrative we call Grognostics. Confused on all these friends of the show that keep popping in on multiple episodes? So were we. So, we wrote a show about it. Here it goes. Everyone stops by. You should too. Jason Reedy guests. Beer from Kona Brewery.

Mar 9, 2018

Our daring, our brave, our nonsensical correspondent in the field is a man of mystery, exploring the depths of this planet most can only dream of. But behind his rugged, adventurous shell is a caring family man, uncle to an adoring niece, and philanthropist to all. But who is he really? Where did he come from? And why do the podcast hosts insist on sending him to his almost-certain-death on every show? Take a journey with us as we pay homage to our very own, Sir Matthew.
